COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update #1

Update #1

Things are moving quite quickly as COVID-19 (Coronavirus) unfolds in Victoria.  Please be assured that everyone involved in the Jobs Victoria Community Traineeships Pilot Program (CTPP) is committed to ensuring that Traineeships are disrupted as little as possible.   

You can find the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 on the Victorian Government’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) website here.

Understandably, some people may be feeling concerned about the CTPP or COVID-19 in general.  We hope that the links and information below are helpful for Trainees.  You may also receive information from your Host Organisation (employer), RMIT or Local Partner Organisation (TaskForce or Youth Projects).  

As information and advice regarding COVID-19 is changing frequently, we will continually update the information regarding how this impacts Trainees. All updates will be made to this webpage and we will email people involved in the CTPP when updates are made.

The CTPP and COVID-19


  • There may be some changes to TAFE class attendance and course work support over the coming weeks. 
  • RMIT are currently preparing a plan to ensure that Trainees are able to continue and successfully complete their courses.  Information regarding any changes will be provided by RMIT, as soon as it is available.  You may already have received an email about this on 18 March 2020.
  • Please ensure you regularly check Canvas and your student emails for updates and information regarding your TAFE course.


  • Employment will continue in line with requirements of your Host Organisation (employer). Some changes may be implemented so it is important that you stay in regular contact with your workplace supervisor. For example, in some instances this may mean that offices are closed for a period of time, or staff may be asked to work from home. Your Host Organisation will be able to give you the information you need regarding work arrangements and wages. Please make sure you speak to your workplace supervisor for advice or about any questions you have.
  • As an employee your Host Organisation (employer) has certain obligations regarding your health and safety in the workplace. For example, you are entitled to take paid sick leave if you are unwell. If you have any questions about this, you need to contact your workplace supervisor.
  • Your Host Organisation (employer) may also provide support services for staff that you should be able to access, such as counselling via an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). If these are unavailable, there are a number of other support services you can access listed below.

CTPP Supports

CTPP Youth Workers

The CTPP Youth Workers are available to; 

  • Provide information about the program 
  • Provide some general youth work support.  Where they are unable to provide support, they can refer you to other services. 
  • Provide some support for you in relation to both your Employment and TAFE course such as:
    • Supporting you to talk with your employer (host organisation) 
    • Supporting you with difficult conversations 
    • Helping you discuss your individual needs (with your consent) with your supervisors or teachers 
    • Support you during key times at your TAFE days if challenges or issues crop up for you 
  • Provide access to the Flexible Wraparound Support Fund (see below).

At Your Host Organisation (Employer)

It is important that you keep in regular contact with your workplace supervisor.  You should be having regular one-to-one meetings with your supervisor. The Human Resources (HR) or People and Culture (P&C) team at your work should also be able to provide you with information and support in relation to workplace policies, arrangements and wages. 


It is important that you keep in contact with your teacher, and regularly check Canvas and your student emails for any updates or further information.

Flexible Wraparound Support Fund

If there are things that could be helpful for you to remain engaged in the program and they have a cost associated with them don’t forget that there is the Flexible Wraparound Support Fund. Speak to your CTPP Youth Worker or workplace supervisor if there is something you think could be covered by this Fund.

MAS National

MAS National is the Apprenticeship Support Network Provider who signed you up as a Trainee at the commencement of your Traineeship. MAS offers mentor support to Trainees in the workplace. If you think you could benefit from this, please let your CTPP Youth Worker know.
